Mr. and Mrs. P. have lived on the hill off of old Hwy 176 for many years. Lately they've come on some hard times. The call for help we received was a little out of the ordinary but a lot of what we get to do at our wood bank is that way.
I got a call from a friend, whose son has an employee who knows a lady whose parents needed wood. Today, when I arrived with just a pickup load ( I always take just a pick up load at first to check things out) they had just run out of wood last night!
"The propane guy hasn't come yet and we can't afford much propane any way so we very much appreciate the wood, God Bless you," Mrs. P. told me as she carried another arm full into the house.
So many people are involved in each delivery of wood, from the family who donated the logs to the friends who helped me buck and split it last year. I always send these folks stories/photos of the wood delivered so that they know their efforts helped folks long after those hot days of cutting in the summer sun.
I loved the article I read some time ago about the cycle of trees soaking up years of heat from the earth and sun in order to release that heat into someone's living room. Those of us in the free wood business get warmed by moving the wood several times and by those smiles and hugs on delivery days.
Stay safe out there all you woodchucks.
